All of our 2011 dogs/puppies have found new homes with loving families. We hope to have two litters for summer 2012 with Ada & Pippin being bred to Aksel for some very nice pet quality puppies. Please check back around April/May to see our new litters. Pippin has been bred to Aksel and we should have our first 2012 litter by the first week of April.
I am striving to produce Miniature Schnauzer puppies with sound minds and healthy bodies that can provide their families with many years of joy. I love my family of non-shedding Schnauzers and want to share the adventure of having them with others.
If you have never owned a Miniature Schnauzer and are curious about traits of the breed, this website has a fairly accurate description: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/miniatureschnauzer.htm
Each dog is an individual and has it's own personality, just like human beings. And just like children, a lot of how they behave depends on how they are raised. Too much discipline can create fear, but no discipline creates a monster - which tends to be the case with the little dogs. They are so cute and cuddley that many people have a hard time telling them "NO".
There is also a nice video produced for Dog 101 on Animal Planet that you can watch.

While fairly accurate, I do not completely agree with the barking part. I am asked on a regular basis about my dogs being "yappy" and in general, they are not. However, I have also been fairly strict with my dogs about excessive barking not being allowed which makes a big difference. I have seen the "yappy" Schnauzer that is stereotyped here. It can be genetic or learned from the mother but I often find that it is a lack of discipline on the owner's part. While we want our dogs to let us know when a stranger is in the area, they need to quiet down once we are aware of the situation.
A note on non-shedding/low-shedding dogs: While they won't leave hair all over the place, they are not necessarily hypo-allergenic as many people claim. People with dog allergies are typically allergic to "dander". A non-shedding dog can still have dander but usually not as much as a shedding dog due to their coat and the grooming they receive. A person with only slight allergies to dogs may be able to own a Schnauzer and not have allergic reactions. However, someone with severe dog allergies may still have a problem. If you have dog allergies, it would be best to spend some time with my Schnauzers and see if you have a reaction before deciding to buy one.
A note to prospective dog/puppy buyers: In my experience, Schnauzers are NOT outside dogs if kept in a pet clip (the haircut that is typically associated with this breed). They can get cold quite easily. Having said that, if you think you can take your new Schnauzer home and tie it up outside all of the time, than a Schnauzer is not for you so please don't get one. While it is rare that we do so, we reserve the right to request references or inspect facilities if we feel that your home may not be suitable for one of our puppies. We do not support puppy mills and will not sell a dog/puppy to someone that intends to kennel, crate or tie to a dog box 24/7. We are providing pets to people who want to share their lives with a wonderful breed of dog and will occassionally provide a breeding dog to someone who breeds or who would like to start into the breed. Please make sure you read my contract at the bottom of this page. You will be required to sign it when you pick up your puppy.
What is included with your puppy and what we do to help ensure the health of our puppies
- Tails docked and dew claws removed.
- Microchipped for identification and recovery in the event of loss.
- De-wormed regularly per veterinary recommendation.
- Vet checked at 6 weeks of age.
- Have had their first set of puppy shots given by our veterinarian.
- They will come home with a bag of food so as not to upset their tender tummies during the transition
- A toy that they have been playing with and that smells like their mom/siblings will be sent with them to help ease their stress.
- A collar with a bell on it so you can hear where they are.
- AKC application for registration.
- A lifetime of support from us with any questions/concerns that arise throughout your new family member's life.
- Weather depending, they will be groomed before leaving for their new home. Summer puppies will have a pet clip and winter puppies typically have only had their heads/faces clipped and are left with a full coat to help keep them warm.
- Free grooming for the first year of your puppy's life (from birthdate to one year birthday).
All of our puppies are raised in the house and played with often. They are crated at night so that they will be used to that routine when they go to their new homes. During the day, they stay in a "hex" pen in our kitchen or they stay in the "doggy" room off of our kitchen which has a doggy door that goes out into our fenced in back yard. The puppies take to the doggy door quite well and have lots of fun jumping in and out of it. The doggy door lets out on to the deck which has a special ramp so that they can let themselves out into the yard easily to potty and play. While I definitely do not guarantee a puppy to be housebroke, most of the owners report that their puppies were housebroke when then took them home and had no accidents as long as the owner listened when the puppy needed out.
We do not ship puppies, you must be able to come pick up your new puppy. I feel that going to a new home with new people is stressfull enough without going through the impersonal process of shipping on a plane. If someone wants to make arrangements to fly here and take their puppy as a carry-on that is acceptible. Arrangments can be made for you to pick up your puppy at my parent's home in East Liverpool, OH if that is closer. I also may be able to meet within a 2 hour radius of Newark, OH.
Unless otherwise noted, puppies have limited AKC registration and are priced at $500 regardless of size, sex or color. Limited Registration puppies are not for breeding purposes and they will need to be spayed or neutered. However, we do offer full registration with breeding rights on a case by case basis at a higher price.
This description of Limited Registration comes directly from the AKC website.
Question: What is Limited Registration?Answer: Limited Registration means that the dog is registered but litters produced by that dog are ineligible for registration. In addition, a limited dog cannot compete in conformation shows. It is eligible, however, to be entered in any other licensed or member event, including Obedience, Tracking, Field Trials, Hunting Tests, Herding, Lure Coursing, Agility, Rally, and Earthdog. The breeder assigns limited registration to a dog by marking (blackening) out the limited registration box on the application. The limited box should not be marked if the dog is being fully registered. When registering a dog on-line, you will be prompted to enter the three numbers in the limited box to receive full registration. Failure to do so will result in a limited registration.
Limited Registration certificates are white with an orange border; the Full Registration certificate is white with a purple border.

Reserving a puppy - Puppies may be reserved at any time with a $100 deposit. The deposit will hold the puppy until it is ready to leave which will be somewhere between 8 & 10 weeks of age. Once notified that your puppy is ready to go home, you will have 5 days to pick it up before an additional $5.00 per day will be added for board and care of the puppy. All deposits are counted toward the purchase price and are non-refundable unless I can not provide you with the puppy.
You can schedule to bring your puppy back to me for grooming. The first whole YEAR (birthday to birthday) of grooming for your puppy is FREE. After that $30 includes a pet clip, bath and nail trim on a maintained coat. If there are a lot of matts in the fur, it may be a little more depending on how much extra work is involved. If you are using the free grooming, I like to keep the puppies on about a 6 week schedule. I have had people stretch it out because they didn't want to "take advantage" of me on the free grooming but the longer periods between grooming actually make it harder for me. Also keep in mind that while I love it when people stay and play with my dogs, it does make your puppy very distracted and a lot harder to groom. Once your puppy is done, you are welcome to stay and play with the dogs and let your puppy socialize but it is preferred that you take about 30-45 minutes to grab a bite to eat or go for a walk on the local bikepath to pass the time. There is also an awesome, indoor garden center down the road that many people like to check out when they are in the area.
A special note on care: Schnauzers tend to have a lot of inner ear hair which can keep the ear moist and cause irritation and infection. The ear hair needs to be thinned out. A good groomer should do this during the grooming session but if not, it is fairly easy to thin it yourself and is usually tolerated fairly well by the dog. I can show you how to do it if you want to do it on your own.
If at any time after the initial 10 day guarantee you can no longer properly care for your Schnauzer for any reason, we should be the first to be notified. In the event that you can not find a new, GOOD home, the dog should come back to us to re-home or keep as a member of our family. None of our puppies should ever end up in a shelter/pound/puppy mill!
